What can be a greater honour than to have the word ‘honourable’ in your title? Former Brisbane partner David Searles is now addressed as The Honourable Judge Searles. Sworn in at a ceremony held at the Banco Court in Brisbane on 17 July, the announcement of David Searles’ appointment as District Court Judge came only four days earlier by the Queensland Government’s Department of Justice and Attorney-General.
On Thursday 7 June 2007, Don Boyd hosted a gathering for some 40 Deacons Alumni in London. Held in "The Temple" at the Great Eastern Hotel in Liverpool St, the event was an opportunity for London based alumni to meet and catch up with their colleagues and meet some new people within the ever-expanding Deacons Alumni network.
Twilight drinks were held in Sydney to celebrate Deacons' first Alumni event for 2007. In the tradition set by past alumni events, the evening was a great success, and was attended by many special members of our alumni, including Jim De Montfort, who began his 55 year career with the firm as an articled clerk after World War Two.
Deacons alumni braved torrential drought-breaking rain on Monday 28 August for the Brisbane launch of Deacons' alumni program. Attendees were well rewarded, with the evening featuring a wine tasting conducted by Deacons alumni, David Russell QC, who is also Chairman of Jimbour Wines.
