Vacation clerkship program
Deacons offers winter and summer clerkships in the Perth office.
As a vacation clerk at Deacons, your clerkship will be a challenging, rewarding and enjoyable experience. You will get to know our partners and staff and experience our culture of open communication and teamwork first hand, whilst gaining an appreciation of how we operate.
Our vacation clerkship program has been designed to ensure that you receive well-rounded practical training. During your clerkship you will be allocated to one main business unit. Your clerkship will include formal training to further develop your knowledge and skills. The training that you will be exposed to will include induction and training on internal systems and processes, firm wide CLE attendance and participation, legal skills training and mentoring.
Our summer clerkship program runs during December, January and February. As a summer clerk you will undertake a 3-week clerkship. Our winter clerkship program runs during June and July. As a winter clerk you will undertake a 2-week clerkship.
Another significant aspect of our clerkships is the social activities and you will have an opportunity to be involved in activities such as cocktail parties, lunches, dinners, sporting events and other social activities.

Articles of Clerkship program
In the Perth office, our articles of clerkship program runs for a 12-month period and consists of 2 rotations. The rotations allow you to experience a wide variety of legal work and when it comes time to move into an area of law in which you wish to practice, you'll be able to identify with confidence the area that best suits your particular talents and career goals. Our articled clerks usually commence employment during February.
As an articled clerk you will also experience, amongst other things:
- A wide variety of both litigious and non-litigious work
- The opportunity to work directly with partners and senior lawyers who will guide and instruct you
- Responsibility for various assignments and matters
- Well-rounded practical and formal training
The main intention is to develop your knowledge and skills to provide a strong foundation for your future career. Our articled clerks are involved in a regular feedback process. This provides an opportunity for ongoing communication between partners and articled clerks and ensures our graduates maximize their learning experience.
